I (Brian) was up early to celebrate Black Friday with thousands of my closest neighbors at Wal- Mart. The store opened at 5a.m. so I showed up at 4:40. The parking lot was full , so I parked in front of Office Depot. There was a line of at least 1000 people that wrapped around most of the parking lot. I decided to walk the line to see if I knew anyone that I could join-- no luck. On to plan-B. I walked up behind all the people in front of the doors and peered in over the crowd as though a curious bystander investigating the scene, then I nonchalantly walked back to a very large pillar and shouldered up on the outside edge next to an overflowing trash can filled with the garbage from those who had spent the night waiting in the cold. Hopefully no one would notice. Two women with shopping carts walked up from the parking lot and stood near the doors where they were verbally abused. One of the women, as she sipped her Starbucks coffee, used the excuse of needing to use the restroom. This simply brought more jeers. Two minutes later another woman tried the very same thing; even I felt like yelling at her. Didn't she know we had been waiting patiently? At the same time 3 young men approached from the opposite side and stood about 40 feet back eliciting only minor verbal disapproval, which they simply ignored.
Finally the moment of truth, the doors opened, people rushed in and I was one of those people. No one noticed. Plan-B worked flawlessly! I found everything on my list and was out in 20 minutes. I loaded up the car and went back for the two items, which I can not mention due to my children being able to read, that required a cart. This time I got in the back of the line which was still going in. Totally done by 5:30. PEOPLE.........that's how it's done! After I left there I went to Best Buy where they were allowing two at a time into the store so I bounced. I pulled into the Target parking lot 10 minutes before it opened. The line was past the garden center--bummer--
I got in it anyway. The store opened and the line moved right along. Found what I wanted and was out in 10 minutes. With such great luck how could I not try one more store? Kohls had been open for just over an hour so there was no line outside. There was a large selection of toys and I was able to finish shopping for the kids. I was stoked as I walked through the store with an arm full of toys, wondering what are all these people waiting in line for? Doesn't matter I scored!
Turns out it was the line to checkout--WHAT ?-- An hour later I was finally on my way home.
